Revision/Editing Groups
What you try to do with revision
is
to find the integrity of the poem. ―Carolyn Kizer
Sessions are limited to
six participants. All genres: fiction, poetry, memoir, nonfiction.
Bring your work to read, discuss, and revise. We will begin each
session with a writing exercise and revision suggestions.
The purpose of this
group is to have our work be all that we want it to be. To learn what
works and what doesn’t work in writing. Think of your first draft as a
flood. A river filled with every possible thing - put it all in and see
what washes up on the banks. Your first draft often is overflowing with
images - tennis shoes, your Grandmother’s cookies, the time you fell in
the lake. Your job as a writer is to make the connections, take out what
doesn’t fit.
The
first draft is usually slow murder
and
each succeeding draft has more
play, more bounce, more light in it. ―Marge Piercy
Cost $200/Summer
Session $150.
