Big Sur Writing Retreats
at The Hermitage

I have been leading weekend writing workshops at New Camaldoli Hermitagein Big Sur for several years. The experience is deeply nurturing and healing. There is time for reading, walking, napping, meditation, and simply being in a spectacularly beautiful setting. The monastery is situated on a mountain high above the Big Sur Coastline with panoramic views in every direction. The setting is serenely peaceful; we can sojourn into the most authentic parts of ourselves and hear them speak.

An atmosphere of silence is maintained during the retreat except for our workshop meetings. If you find that you haven’t enough time for writing, if you have pieces you can't seem to get started on, or if you just want to join a group of retreatants who are putting thoughts and feelings to paper, this is a spectacularly beautiful and nourishing place in which to do so.

Retreat costs include a private room and meals.
